Places Like "Solar" don't need concepts, they are like our Home.
And our Home is not a concept, it's where we feel truly happy.
The origins of "Solar Moinho de Vento" date back to 1905 when Maria da Rosa Pinto da Silva and Antonio da Silva Pinto founded a "Casa de Pasto" in this sixteenth century building. When Maria da Rosa died the property went to his daughter, who, married to Firmino Costa, did some remodeling work and called it "Solar Costa". According to some testimonies and writings of the period that was when the "diva" of Fado Amália Rodrigues sang in this restaurant.
In 1991 António Loureiro acquired the restaurant and renamed it "Solar Moinho de Vento" selling it in 2002 to a young Pedro Bessa Monteiro who performed a more extensive remodeling and is now the current Manager & Owner.
A name is inseparable from our flavors: Lucilia Moreira. Born and raised in rural Baltar, she early demonstrated the ability to tune flavours by learning from what her mother taught her. After one pass through Angola, Africa, she was invited by the current management in 2002 and accepted the challenge to lead the kitchen of this historic restaurant.
Classic Solar Moinho de Vento dishes as " Rabbit Stew " , "Fava Beans Stew Grandma Ermelinda Style" or "Rice with Ribs, Turnips & Chorizo" all came from the imagination of this nice lady.
